To comply with a court ruling Texas has lowered the minimum age to get a Texas license to carry to 18 years of age. 18- to 20-year-olds can now take the class and get a Texas LTC that will allow them to carry like everyone else with an LTC.
Starting immediately the DPS will issue a Texas license to carry to anyone who is at least 18 years of age. Anyone 18 years of age or older with a Texas license to carry will be able to carry open or concealed in Texas. The process for an 18- to 20-year-old to get a license to carry is the same as everyone else, you take the online course and apply for your license online on the DPS website. Just like any other US citizen, you have the right at the age of 18, 19, or 20 to protect yourself and loved one. Being responsible with your firearm starts with an LTC.
